Technology Title

Using Raptor RFID Systems to support Aircraft Data Integration

Tech Focus Area

Aircraft Data Integration

Abstract

Problem Statement:

DoD aircraft maintenance and logistics systems rely on accurate asset tracking and location data, but suffer from delays and errors due to manual inventory practices and fragmented databases. High-value components can go unaccounted for or misplaced, impacting readiness and delaying repairs. Additionally, The DoD desires to improve manpower short falls and improve receipt and issuing of assets. Current processes create backlogs during heavy ordering times. The DoD requires inventory vigilance to improve readiness and desires to be compliant with DoD regulations for RFID processing.

Description of the Innovative Solution:

RaptorRFID provides a cost-effective, portable RFID solution that automates data capture, organizes inventory contextually, and outputs integration-ready files for warehouse environments supporting aircraft maintenance operations. The system includes two patent pending components:

• RaptorArray: A mobile, cart-mounted RFID scanning system that reads thousands of tagged assets per minute across warehouse aisles. It enables rapid inventory collection and reconciliation without requiring fixed infrastructure.

• RaptorHandheld: A geiger-style RFID reader that helps maintenance personnel quickly locate specific assets, especially useful in remote or decentralized maintenance settings.

These tools collect telemetry data, categorize it by location, and export standardized CSV files. The files integrate easily with platforms that manage aircraft-related documentation such as AFCs, AFBs, and LES, or can be imported into data lakes to support analytics and mission planning.

The system also includes:

• RaptorScan: An interface for scanning and inventory control on both laptops and handheld devices

• RaptorVision: An analytics engine that generates heatmaps and flags inventory discrepancies

Benefits to the DoD:

• Real-time visibility into aircraft support inventory

• Improved data structure and context for analysis and planning

• Secure, portable system with no dependency on fixed infrastructure

• TAA compliant, MIL-STD, CAC equipped, IP65 certified hardware

• Compatible with all logistics systems of record that export CSV inventory

Innovation Challenges:

RTLS systems are expensive, infrastructure-heavy, and require detailed mapping to implement. Manual methods such as barcode scanning are too slow and unreliable for modern aircraft maintenance demands. RaptorRFID eliminates these barriers by offering a mobile, infrastructure-light alternative that integrates with both legacy and modern systems using standard CSV formats.

Technical Maturity / Demonstration Results:

The RaptorRFID suite is in pre-deployment pilot phase. Tools have been validated in warehouse simulations, including asset movement scenarios typical of aviation maintenance. The patent-pending technology is being prepared for live demonstrations at government facilities.
