Abstract
Astrel’s Automated Debris Collection Robot (ACTR) is a fully electric, autonomous solution designed to revolutionize industrial debris collection management. Operating continuously on a 24/7 schedule, ACTR eliminates human safety risks while drastically increasing efficiencies and visibility of operations. By integrating advanced AI tracking systems (GUEX AI) with real-time SLAM supervision, ACTR offers a highly feasible, low-risk, and immediately deployable technology that aligns with the core evaluation metrics of DOW Technology Competition.

Traditional maintenance and debris collection rely heavily on high-risk, fuel-consuming manned operations or rigid, pre-programmed mechanics. ACTR breaks this paradigm by introducing a 100% electric drivetrain and collection architecture. This system utilizes advanced machine learning algorithms to detect, categorize, and predict the exact trajectory of multi-sized debris in real time. This ensures high-precision capture without human intervention, maximizing operational efficiency and minimizing collateral collision risks.
ACTR is built on a hardware stack, ensuring low technical risk and high operational readiness for immediate deployment. Because the system is fully electric, it eliminates chemical fuel dependencies, significantly lowering lifecycle costs, reducing logistical footprints, and simplifying maintenance requirements. The robot is engineered for 24/7 continuous operation, utilizing automated wireless quick-charging intervals and a robust, wear-resistant steel chassis. This extreme durability ensures long-term sustainment across multi-year deployment cycles, making it a highly reliable asset for continuous environmental remediation.
While highly relevant for commercial operators and industrial facilities, ACTR holds immense cross-service utility for the Department of War (DOW) and governmental infrastructure. Maintaining clean, debris-free operating zones directly enhances situational awareness, safeguards communication assets, and ensures uninterrupted tactical capabilities. The underlying AI tracking and automated capture technologies can be adapted easily for broader logistics, asset maintenance, and autonomous monitoring across various harsh operating environments.
ACTR minimizes human labor while maximizing safety through its robust teleoperations. While the robot operates autonomously around the clock to track and collect debris, human supervisors retain ultimate oversight. Operators can monitor live telemetry, override paths, and manage collection data from a secure, remote ground station. This hybrid model guarantees absolute operational control, satisfies regulatory safety compliance, and allows a single interface to oversee an entire fleet of ACTR units seamlessly.
