PULSE: The Heartbeat of Depot Operations – Monitoring the Rhythm of Readiness

Tech Focus Area

Autonomous Logistics

Abstract

Problem Statement: Depot leaders manage complex maintenance, modernization, logistics, and sustainment programs across a broad industrial enterprise. Historically, fragmented data, legacy systems, and manual reporting created a significant visibility gap. Leaders often relied on manually compiled information that was outdated by the time it reached decision-makers. This reactive process limited the ability to identify material shortages, workload imbalances, emerging schedule risk, and potential cost overruns before they affected production. Supervisors and project managers spent substantial time collecting, validating, and reconciling information rather than directing maintenance execution, managing risk, and improving readiness.

Description of the Innovation Solution: PULSE is a live operational analytics dashboard designed to monitor and synchronize depot readiness. Built directly on core enterprise resource planning data and the Army Vantage platform, PULSE serves as a live bridge—not a separate database—connecting operational data to leaders, project managers, and commanders through a common operational picture. PULSE applies artificial intelligence-enabled analysis to transform raw maintenance and logistics data into timely, actionable insight. The dashboard supports live key performance indicator tracking, project-status analysis, and risk identification across active programs. PULSE provides predictive insight to anticipate material shortages, identify potential cost overruns, and generate estimates at completion, allowing leaders to adjust course and develop mitigation actions before issues affect maintenance delivery.

Benefits to the Department of War:

  • Enhanced Readiness: Improves visibility of maintenance, logistics, and material-readiness risks that can affect delivery timelines and asset availability.
  • Proactive Risk Mitigation: Enables leaders to identify emerging shortages, workload constraints, and financial risks earlier in the maintenance cycle.
  • Rapid Decision-Making: Replaces time-consuming manual reporting with live analytics and current operational insight.
  • Improved Fiscal Accountability: Provides visibility of projected costs and estimates at completion to support early intervention on potential budget variances.
  • Enterprise Visibility: Establishes a common, data-informed view of depot operations for project managers, senior leaders, and commanders.

Innovation Challenges: PULSE must integrate varied operational data from legacy enterprise resource planning systems while maintaining data quality, consistency, timeliness, and user trust. Key challenges include harmonizing maintenance, logistics, material, cost, and schedule data into a common operational view; enabling AI-supported analysis without disrupting existing processes; and delivering information in a format that supports rapid decisions at multiple leadership levels.

Technical Maturity / Demonstration Results: PULSE is operational as a live analytics capability on Army Vantage. It demonstrates the ability to connect enterprise data to a common dashboard, provide current program visibility, track key performance indicators, and support predictive analysis of material, schedule, and cost risk. PULSE provides depot leadership with an enterprise view of operations and a scalable foundation for proactive readiness management.
