EEPIC: Engineering and Electronic Product Innovation Center
Tech Focus Area
Reliability Improvement
Abstract
The Department of War faces a persistent sustainment challenge when critical components are no longer readily available through the traditional supply chain. Obsolescence, diminishing manufacturing sources, and long lead times can leave maintainers waiting for parts while serviceable equipment remains out of operation. The impact is even greater in forward and remote contested environments where access to established depots, suppliers, and manufacturing infrastructure may be limited. EEPIC(Engineering and Electronic Product Innovation Center) addresses this challenge by bringing engineering and production capability directly to the point of need.

Developed by Parts Life, Inc., EEPIC is a rapidly deployable engineering and manufacturing capability designed to support sustainment where traditional infrastructure or supply chains cannot respond quickly enough. The transportable system deploys in a compact configuration and expands at the operating location into a controlled workspace where digital engineering and additive manufacturing activities can be performed. Its integrated power and environmental systems allow the equipment and computing resources inside the system to operate in a stable environment, giving maintenance organizations access to production capability closer to the equipment they support.
EEPIC gives maintenance organizations a faster path from an identified need to a producible solution. Engineering and production activities can be performed closer to the supported asset rather than relying solely on distant infrastructure. This can reduce the time and logistics burden associated with obsolete or hard to source components while also supporting the production of approved replacement components, tooling, fixtures, prototypes, and maintenance aids. This gives maintainers greater flexibility when traditional supply channels cannot meet operational timelines.
Moving manufacturing closer to the point of need also requires production to remain controlled, repeatable, and aligned with existing engineering and approval requirements. EEPIC addresses this through its controlled operating environment, defined manufacturing processes, and digital engineering capability. The system is intended to complement, rather than bypass, established DoW qualification and technical authority pathways while extending where approved engineering and manufacturing activities can be performed.
EEPIC is demonstration ready and integrates proven technologies into a deployable system. Its transport, setup, environmental control, digital workflow, and point of need production capabilities can be demonstrated as an integrated process. EEPIC provides the DoW with a practical approach to extending engineering and manufacturing capability beyond traditional facilities, giving maintenance organizations another tool to reduce downtime and sustain readiness when time, location, and part availability constrain the traditional support model.
