Abstract

Modern sustainment operations continue to face challenges in forecasting workload, identifying emerging bottlenecks, and ensuring feasible production plans across the Department of War (DoW). Fragmented data sources, manual spreadsheets, and slow reporting cycles obscure operational risk and reduce readiness. These limitations directly affect cycle time, manpower allocation, cost efficiency, safety, and materiel availability.

RangeFinder addresses these challenges with an AI enabled workload and scenario planning capability designed for real time sustainment decision making. The tool integrates authoritative Army data including funded and unfunded workload, historical performance baselines, factory calendars, and routing details into a single operational picture. Users can introduce new mission requirements, stress specific work centers, or test alternative production scenarios and immediately visualize downstream impacts. Its agent driven Scheduling Assistant evaluates capacity, staffing levels, machine availability, and historical execution patterns to recommend targeted actions such as schedule adjustments, personnel realignments, or alternative routing.

RangeFinder’s benefits to DoW sustainment are substantial. The tool reduces scenario planning time from hours to minutes and exposes true capacity limitations before schedules are finalized, preventing unrealistic commitments and improving delivery accuracy. It identifies overloaded work centers early, improves cycle time predictability, and highlights underutilized capacity that can be redistributed. These capabilities reduce manpower strain, lower operational risk, and strengthen materiel readiness. Because RangeFinder is integrated with existing Army systems, every output reflects real conditions within the sustainment enterprise, ensuring consistency with established data sources and operational practices.

RangeFinder’s innovation lies in its combination of AI driven forecasting, real time decision assistance, and automated executive level reporting capabilities that exceed traditional sustainment tools. Unlike systems that simply display data, RangeFinder actively proposes viable mitigation strategies, advancing the state of the art in maintenance planning while avoiding commercialism by focusing strictly on technical function and operational improvement.

Technical maturity has been demonstrated through operational use, scenario based testing, and recorded demonstrations. Users validated RangeFinder’s ability to simulate missions, process workload changes, update all work center views in real time, and apply agent recommended adjustments reliably. Tests involving workload surges, staffing limitations, and work center outages confirmed the system’s readiness and the accuracy of its recommendations.

RangeFinder also shows strong cross service applicability. Any military branch or logistics activity that manages workload forecasting, shop capacity, or production timelines can benefit from its capabilities. Its feasibility is reinforced by native enterprise integration, demonstrated performance, and a roadmap including predictive maintenance, multisite synchronization, and automated rescheduling supporting a realistic transition path into DoW sustainment operations and broader defense logistics environments.
