CTMA Project #: 141004
Problem: Optimizing shipyard configuration and improving shipyard productivity is a complex objective made up of several variables, including worker efficiency, equipment effectiveness, material supply delays, errors/rework, inefficient task sequencing, and unexpected repair requirements once initial repairs are begun.
Benefit: The digital modeling software suite can then optimize the workload with subject matter expertise input, accounting for throughput, labor, energy consumption, weather, tides or other resource variables to include construction alternatives. This work effort will lead to innovations in the public and private sector with advanced industrial planning processes for infrastructure maintenance and sustainment activities.
Solution/Approach: Phase I modeled the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility to simulate shipyard operations and define the optimal shipyard plant layout and configuration. Phase II builds on the efforts of Phase I digital model and will implement the optimization of the shipyard plant layout and configuration in the form of project planning requirements. The culmination of this effort will be the creation of the DD1391 Budget Request Document built upon the Phase I digital modelling and the Phase II studies, design, and schedule development.
