CTMA Project #: 140954
Problem: Many municipalities struggle with how to maintain and sustain specialty, yet seldom used equipment, in a streamlined, yet cost friendly way. There are several platforms of specialized equipment that the DoD maintains and is responsible for that see little active time yet are critical to have when needed.
Benefit: Improved supply chain and inventory management coordination between commercial entities and their customers will drive more efficient collaboration, eliminate waste, and improve economic output for the combined public and private manufacturing sector. The findings from this project could inform future supply chain systems for other similarly low-usage systems, as well as create a blueprint for all maintenance and sustainment activities for these critical, often idle, assets.
Solution/Approach: A decision has since been made to extend its service life of the E-6B Mercury aircraft, however the supply chain management and inventory management systems and processes are not keeping pace with the requirements to sustain the aircraft. Through this concept demonstration, the Naval Air Systems Command’s (NAVAIR’s) program office aims to identify an implementable future state Supply Chain Management and Inventory Management System to optimize and modernize the E-6B aircraft.
