Problem: Image intensifier tubes (IIT) classified in the field for demil are being re-evaluated at the depot level (i.e. TYAD) using outdated, subjective, manual test methods. Therefore, millions of dollars worth of IITs that could pass MIL specifications and support our warfighters are being erroneously destroyed.
Benefit: IITs can be tested using state-of-the-art, NIST traceable, automated equipment. AIMS will provide better repeatability and reproducibility, save hours of testing time and millions of dollars in tube savings.
Solution/Approach: PSU EOC will upgrade an existing AIMS system to incorporate MX-10130 tube test capabilities via a new light source, new collimator optics, new tube fixturing and updated software. This system will be evaluated by TYAD for 24 months giving TYAD the opportunity to salvage IITs.
Impact on Warfighter: Returning demil classified but fully functional IITs to the warfighter will support their mission readiness and significantly reduce the nearly two-year new tube purchase backlog at the tube manufacturers.
