CTMA Project #: 142070
Problem: As the U.S. military moves towards its divestiture of its fleet of famed M1A1 Abrams tanks in FY2025, there are still many coalition partner countries operating M1A1 fleets that will require continued sustainment and an active supply chain of replacement parts for years to come.
Benefit: Demonstrating this FSSM with the M1A1 Abrams fleet will serve as a surrogate to commercial organizations that are faced with similar challenges when considering divestiture. The FSSM concepts related to resource pooling will save time, costs and will encourage cooperation between commercial organization who share common business goals.
Solution/Approach: The Fair Share Sustainment Model (FSSM) project will develop a framework for future sustainment after the U.S. divestiture of the M1A1 through continued U.S. Army development of common components, with unique component development being the responsibility of the new users. This project will create a FSSM that will be available to all partner nations on a voluntary basis and will be developed in the best interest of all to ensure long term sustainment. The framework for this effort will include a roadmap for the investigation, analysis, and development of solutions to field problems, finding new sources of supply for repair parts, redesigning obsolete components, and inserting new technologies that sustain the viability of the Abrams configuration post divestiture.
