The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to leverage advanced commercial technologies and processes to improve the collection of individual health data to reduce the negative impact of workplace health incidents and public health events on supply chains, as well as manufacturing and maintenance and sustainment operations. This effort will focus on having access to embedded software that can be easily integrated into mobile phones already in use by the general public, manufacturing workforces, and DOD personnel to both assure the sustainment of the manufacturing base workforce, provide data to support demand sensing for supply chain management of personal protective equipment and other public health response requirements, and convert hardware-based medical devices into software alleviating the burden on the overall supply chain.
