The US Navy is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to work toward modernizing the tools and processes needed to get ships safely, effectively, and efficiently back to sea once they have been sent to the shipyard for service. This project will demonstrate the utility and benefits of two technologies that address current issues commonly arising in ship repair and maintenance. It will focus on developing 1) a customizable radiological information display system using electronic input from wireless radiation detection devices displaying live radiation readings; and 2) mechanical devices with digital (numeric) readout capable of measuring the minimum and maximum diameters of different globe valves.
