The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to identify an obsolescence and supply chain risk mitigated common Turret Drive Control Unit (TDCU) design across a particular family of vehicles, and improvements for high power distribution and motion controls.
The goal of the TDCU redesign effort is to increase the reliability of the TDCU and make it easier to maintain at a lower cost. This effort will help increased readiness and maintenance of the system by addressing obsolescence issues related to the expensive power semiconductor components and improving turret movement control margin performance as new sensors and technology insertions, that could increase turret mass and weight, are introduced across the family of vehicles.
Phase III is intended to complete the redesign of TDCU hardware to include finalizing the TDCU A109 Power Supply Circuit Card Assembly and deliver a non-proprietary Level 3 Technical Data Package for qualification. Phase III will also address the increase in cyber requirements for the TDCU and other system hardware and software.
