The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to improve the state of the art in modeling and simulation, systems integration, and software agile development tools and processes to intelligently design and integrate a comprehensive IT solution for an operations/command center that is interoperable, reliable, and secure. Using a specific operations center as a surrogate, a proof of concept will be employed to design, demonstrate, and test full subsystems integration and functionality across all hardware and software components operating in a multi-level security architecture and operating system.
Specific objectives for this initiative include:
- Providing a streamlined, common approach to identify and resolve software integration and maintenance issues in integrated IT solutions platforms, reducing the time and cost to upgrade new capabilities to provide a safer and reliable system.
- Creating a repeatable engineering and implementation process and toolset that results in more reliable integrated IT solutions that enhance interoperability and reduce malfunctions and other maintenance issues.
- Ensuring software integration solutions will allow for easier drop-in hardware component replacement and software upgrades that requires less time and costs.
- Reducing vulnerability to cyber threats to system and subsystems levels.
