The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multi-phase initiative to advance the state of the art in agile software development, collaborative environments, and modeling and simulation tools and processes to update and sustain aviation maintenance commercial and government off the shelf (COTS/GOTS) software applications, so they are more reliable and resilient against cyber threats.
Specific objectives for Phase II include:
- Construct, code, integrate, test, and deliver monthly security updates to meet requirements for vulnerability analysis and remediation.
- Review trade studies and reports on emerging technologies to evaluate and incorporate strategies that leverage new virtual applications that align with Department of Defense cyber mandates.
- Analyze existing ALE architecture and applications and provide recommendations and technical support for integration with cyber-enhanced solutions.
- Prepare system engineering system modifications for security updates and remediation.
- Perform full regression testing on all baseline software configurations prior to agile updates.
- Develop and implement cyber security strategy and Information Assurance (IA) certification in accordance with applicable directives.
- Implement a configuration management tracking system and Risk Management Plan.
