The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance the state of modern plating solutions, and manufacturing processes to provide agile and flexible plating solutions that eliminates the necessity to empty large plating tanks when testing new chemical processes or for small run changeovers.
To keep pace with the required environmental and safety regulations, it is necessary to have a flexible solution to test and experiment with various plating chemistries for optimal part outcomes. Specific goals of this initiative include:
- Establish planning, design layout, and production flow of new experimental/ flexible plating line
- Develop and implement the system to control the tank operations including the heaters, ventilation, etc.
- Develop and implement the equipment operator and maintenance training plan to ensure safe operation and maintenance of the equipment/ system.
- Conduct a pilot of the plating system to ensure that the equipment functions properly.
- Document and implement equipment operator and maintenance tasks and troubleshooting procedures to ensure compliance with all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and applicable standards and regulations.
