Phillips Additive Hybrid and the Meltio Wire DED

Problem:

The supply chain for ship building and ship repair is not always efficient. Waiting on parts and pieces to come in to complete a ship repair goal often causes weeks, months, and sometimes year-long delays. Additive manufacturing is the newest technology in ship building and the ship repair industry. ITL brings technology solutions to some of the most important operations in the shipyard.

Technology Solution:

Additive manufacturing can cut down on lead times in the ship building and ship repair industry. From low volume manufacturing runs to intricate geometry and shapes, ITL’s Phillips Additive Hybrid with the 5-axis Haas UMC-750 Vertical Mill and the Meltio Wire DED (Laser Directed Energy Deposition) additive component can reduce lead times and complete ship repair goals more efficiently. For example, castings that used to take weeks can now be completed in days by using our additive technologies.

Benefits:

ITL is positioned to be one of the best assets in the yard due to our knowledge of the process of certification via tech pub qualification and our direct engagement with the program offices. We can use that knowledge with our additive manufacturing capabilities to tailor solutions to each problem faced in the shipyard. We can use both Stainless Steel 316L and 308L to additively manufacture.
