Project Announcement: Acquisition Strategy for Improved Shipyard Maintenance and Sustainment

The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to model the ship repair industrial base today, use analytics to predict impacts of acquisition strategy refinements and to develop a refined acquisition strategy that optimizes how the DOD interacts with and incents this industrial base to provide the current and future capabilities required by growing demand of the surface fleet.

Specific objectives include:

  • Develop economic model of the ship repair industrial base.
  • Evaluate acquisition strategy initiatives against their economic impact on ship repair providers.
  • Develop a redesigned/refined surface ship repair and modernization acquisition strategy.
