Project Announcement: Leveraging Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) and Dual-Use Electronics for Improved Commonality and Maintainability

The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance the state of the art in modular open systems approach (MOSA), engineering and design tools, and dual-use smart display technologies to develop a new common display panel solution that increases maintainability and interoperability across different vehicle variants with diverse software applications and communications systems.

Using a specific ground vehicle as a testbed, the selected industry partners will design and develop a common high resolution smart display that is fully functional across three vehicle configurations, is easier to maintain, and mitigates future obsolescence and sustainment issues. Furthermore, the industry partner will be asked to prove the feasibility for new MOSA and systems design and integration approaches that can be applied to other dual-use electronics across Services in a manner that maximizes commonality, interoperability, reliability, and safety.  The technology implementation goal for this effort will be Tier 2.
