Project Announcement: Modular Electric Machines and Drives for Vehicle Sustainment – Phase II

The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to create a dynamic modular eDrive prototype that can provide power dense vehicle plug-in support. The overall objective of this effort is to employ an in-hub “wheel hub” modular motor which is directly integrated into the wheels of the vehicle, rather than the typical motor with gears and transmission systems.

Phase II will focus on the following goals:

  • compose a programmatic plan
  • create a requirements document
  • execute a concept design review
  • execute a preliminary design review
