The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multi-phase CTMA initiative with an overarching goal of vastly improving legacy processes and facilities in a 3-stage approach starting with a deep understanding of the current processes necessary to bring products to market.
In the previous phases modeling and decision analysis tools were developed and then expanded to enterprise scale to be able to determine optimal and cost-effective solutions during equipment upgrades and facility modifications. Phase V will primarily be focused on:
- utilization of the digital model to identify equipment and process solutions that increase throughput;
- increasing the model’s scope and capability to include modeling workload on specific assets;
- identification of more optimal courses of action across the enterprise, including moving workload between maintenance facilities in support of “centers of excellence;”
- use of the model to simulate new facility construction or renovation in support of the enterprise master plan;
- further evaluation of the benefits of a fully digital shop floor production environment.
Technology implementation will be at the Tier 2 level.
