The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to demonstrate how data-driven decisions resulting from the application of a reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) approach can reduce unnecessary maintenance and costs during equipment refurbishment. Additionally, this project will identify critical components and failure modes of specific aircraft equipment and components such that maintenance and sustainment resources can be targeted and efficiently allocated, leading to increased reliability and reduced downtime.  The technology implementation goal for this initiative is Tier 1.

Specific objectives include:

  • provide assessment and inspection for scheduled maintenance inspection of aerial refueling stores (ARS) to determine configuration level of each assembly
  • develop and demonstrate business process automation tools applicable for this effort
  • inspect, validate, and determine usability of current parts and materials
  • deliver production data analytic dashboards as required to track ARS fleet reliability and maintainability performance and sustainment degraders
