NCMS is assisting the US Army in seeking a partner with capabilities to document, disassemble, pack, and ship large-scale additive manufacturing equipment.
Background
Through NCMS’s Advanced Manufacturing, Materials, and Processes (AMMP) Program, a Rapid Large-Scale Additive Manufacturing Prototype (R-LAMP) was developed to revolutionize key defense supply chains by leveraging its unique capabilities to deliver precision to larger builds and novel designs while reducing build time, minimizing feedstock waste, and consolidating parts counts for large-scale prototypes. The RLAMP materials and equipment are currently located at two facilities.
Solution Sought
The US Army seeks a partner with the capabilities to document, disassemble, catalog, and ship large additive manufacturing equipment. Facility (1) is near San Diego, California, and facility (2) is near Rock Hill, South Carolina. All equipment will be shipped to an NCMS facility in Aberdeen, Maryland.
The equipment at facility (1) in San Diego consists of a fully assembled RLAMP Unit #1 and a partially assembled RLAMP Unit #2, which includes various modules and pieces/parts. The equipment in facility (2) in Rock Hill consists of pieces/parts that should not require disassembly prior to packing and shipment.
Desired Capabilities
- Digital documentation, inventory, and cataloging of large-scale additive manufacturing equipment
- Disassembly and packing of sensitive, large-scale, and complex additive manufacturing equipment
- Parts/bin labeling and cataloging
- Heavy equipment rigging, materials handling, loading, and transporting large sensitive electronic and other equipment inside facilities and over the road
Responses
Interested parties should complete the following form and provide a white paper response with no more than four (4) pages, not including a cover page, using the format below. Responses are due on 19 July 2023 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time Zone. All questions or concerns can be addressed to opportunities@ncms.org.
White Paper Response:
- Describe the general approach to providing a solution.
- Describe assumptions.
- Provide high-level project schedule and timing.
- Provide high-level cost breakdowns for each task to document, inventory, disassemble, pack, and transport per the descriptions below:
- RLAMP Unit #1: Provide individual cost breakdowns for digital documentation, inventory, disassembly, packing, and shipment from facility one near San Diego, California to the NCMS facility in Aberdeen, MD.
- RLAMP Unit #2: Provide individual cost breakdowns for digital documentation, inventory, disassembly, packing, and shipment from facility one near San Diego, California to the NCMS facility in Aberdeen, MD.
- Provide a cost breakdown for inventory documentation, packing, and shipment of equipment located at facility two in Rock Hill, SC to the NCMS facility in Aberdeen, MD.
- Describe recent and relevant experience.
