Technology Title
Palladyne™ IQ
Tech Focus Area
Robotics and Automation
Abstract
Greater integration of robotics and automation into MRO activities has so far posed two significant challenges: First, most industrial robots are rigidly preprogrammed for repetitive tasks in controlled settings, making them time-consuming and costly to implement, and requiring connection to the cloud and expansive processing. Second, such robots often cannot handle nuances in tasks, objects, or surroundings, making them ineffective for complex and dynamic applications like agile manufacturing, field repair, line quality inspection, and surface preparation tasks. Palladyne™ IQ is a closed-loop autonomy software that uses AI and ML technologies to provide human-like reasoning capabilities for industrial robots and collaborative robots (cobots), increasing flexibility and dynamism in assigned tasks without relying on cloud connectivity. Palladyne IQ helps make robots smarter and better equipped to handle jobs that have historically been too complex to automate.
Palladyne IQ is designed to enable low-/no-code training for robotic systems: robust training and ML happen on the edge, which supports faster deployment without costly programming resources needed by traditional automated systems. Its edge computing capabilities facilitate autonomous decision-making without needing a connection to the cloud, making Palladyne IQ ideal for deployed and remote operations where network access may be limited.

This presents a unique advantage for military sustainment, as Palladyne IQ-equipped robots can ensure equipment remains combat-ready with reduced downtime and manpower requirements, even in resource-challenged environments.
Palladyne IQ can be deployed for a multitude of applications and environments, including across DOD branches and functions:
- Aircraft, vehicle, and ship maintenance tasks (e.g., descaling, media-blasting)
- Depot-level sustainment and quality assurance inspections
- Integration with existing robotic platforms to expand autonomous capabilities
Palladyne IQ has been awarded a multi-year contract with the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, which showcase the product’s usefulness in augmenting industrial robots for aircraft sustainment. Palladyne IQ is being integrated into multiple remediation activities such as robotic media blasting and sanding, proving its real-world viability. These demonstrations represent milestones on Palladyne IQ’s path to full operational deployment, ultimately resulting in a high-impact, scalable solution for diverse military sustainment efforts. Fully deployed, Palladyne IQ will assist mission-critical assets remain operational and reduce the burden on maintenance personnel while improving quality and speed.
To accelerate Palladyne IQ’s refinement and adoption, Palladyne AI is focused on integration of AI-driven automation into existing maintenance infrastructure, conducting pilot programs to validate and build effectiveness in diverse sustainment environments, and training personnel on Palladyne IQ-enabled robotic systems to ensure smooth deployment.
