The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to develop an enhanced set of tools and processes that provide an integrated approach to engineering and logistical tasks to improve mission readiness for DOD aircraft. Its goal will be to develop a model for improving the integration of logistical and engineering tools to optimize safety, readiness, and cost.

Phase II will continue to improve procurement, maintenance, and sustainment processes through the development and demonstration of integrated approaches that combine engineering, logistics, software, and management efforts.

Specific focuses will include:

enhancing tools to identify the root causes of failures and prevent them, as well as developing empirical data to improve crack initiation analysis, enabling safe reuse of existing parts when appropriate
developing predictive models utilizing artificial intelligence and machine leaning techniques to identify and mitigate future system failures
