CTMA Project #: 142281

Problem: With the unexpected challenges of a global pandemic and unpredictable supply chain issues exposing many shortfalls, many commercial businesses are increasingly interested in finding new approaches and technologies to be better prepared in their planning processes, while also trying to better predict potential issues before they occur. The nuclear Navy supply base is under significant pressure with the recent increase in submarine build rates. As recent deliveries have fallen behind schedule, it is critical that the United States (U.S.) Navy develop more visibility into the complex submarine production system to anticipate issues and best deploy its resources.

Solution/Approach: The overall objective of this initiative is to establish a performance management system that can quickly and accurately summarize shipyard and supplier performance and provide actionable information to address issues to optimize schedule performance. Efforts will focus on enhancing new construction planning, forecasting, and delivery of submarines and undersea systems.

Benefit: This initiative will successfully test and demonstrate an enhanced performance management system that will benefit commercial businesses and the public by improving project planning and business practices in maintenance and sustainment environments which can lead to important costs savings and on-time delivery of products for consumers.

Impact on Warfighter:

  • Enhance communication and decision-making
