The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to modernize maintenance and sustainment operations by creating a unified digital ecosystem that standardizes infrastructure, equipment, and procedures across facilities. The overall goal is to improve readiness by forecasting maintenance availabilities with greater accuracy, enhancing information flow within facilities, and maximizing consistency in repair and sustainment.
Specific objectives include:

  • create digital models of shop floor operations at each of the existing facilities
  • use those models as a foundation to build one overarching digital shop floor system with four locations
  • establish an interconnected network of standardized maintenance practices
