The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to enhance small watercrafts research, development, test, evaluation, acquisition, maintenance and repair ecosystem. The overarching goal is to ensure that the Government has a robust and well-equipped industrial base to support new technology insertion, small boats and crafts developmental research, enhancement of industries capabilities and skills to sustain warfighting and self-repair operations, and also establish a scalable model that can benefit the broader maritime and industrial workforce.
Specific objectives include:
• Establishing maintenance infrastructure support services
• Operating strategic and critical infrastructure supporting maintenance workforce competency
• Developing and maintaining critical asset inventory management
• Improving sustainment and readiness through data-driven insights
• Supporting small boats and crafts maintenance operations
• Reducing maintenance costs and increasing operational efficiency
