NCMS Project #: 142246
Problem: Finding new and innovative ways to maintain and sustain radar sensor systems with their complex technologies, numerous lines of code, and proprietary intellectual property constraints continues to be a significant, if not insurmountable challenge. The primary challenges to maintain a radar sensor system rests with the access and availability of technical data (both software and physical hardware) and the availability and resiliency of the supply chain which supports it.
Benefit: This initiative will allow easy integration of a detection sensors into legacy commercial and military vehicles through drop-in part replacement and provides a streamlined, common approach to develop new installation kits and technologies across platforms, functions, and locations. This will help reduce the time and cost of delivering safe, reliable, and mission critical sensing capabilities across a wide range of vehicles in a manner that is fast, reliable, cost-effective, and easy to maintain.
Solution/Approach: The objective of this initiative is to transform a single function radar sensor into a multi-functional system that is software adaptable and will provide expanded functional capabilities without adding additional parts and hardware components that can malfunction. Phase II will explore new engineering and integration methods to design, develop, and demonstrate the utility of modular, vehicle agnostic installation kits for the integration of a mobile multi-function radar detection system that can meet all safety, threat detection, and maintenance and sustainment requirements.
