The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to demonstrate modernized shipyard operations by creating a unified digital ecosystem that standardizes infrastructure, equipment and procedures across facilities. The overall goal is to improve fleet readiness by forecasting maintenance availabilities with greater accuracy, enhancing information flow within shipyards, and maximizing consistency in ship repair and sustainment.

Specific objectives include:
• improve the digital flow of information to the shop floor
• provide personnel with near real-time access to updated processes and/or availability information
• deliver higher fidelity in-work processes
• strengthen decision-making through predictive metrics
• support training and adoption across the workforce
