The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to analyze materiel readiness of ground equipment for a specific unit through the lens of CBM+, modernizing maintenance activities, and ensuring accurate supply and maintenance data can be used in an advanced ERP system to provide a framework for modernizing maintenance operations. The overall goal is to enable accurate life cycle data collection, facilitate implementation of CBM+ principles and practices, and aid future artificial intelligence and machine learning tools in delivering reliable, actionable, and high-quality results across various applications.

Specific objectives include:

  • Develop a data strategy to include analysis of equipment life cycle data sources across all equipment.
  • Develop processes, procedures, and timelines that ensure organizational sections validate supply and maintenance demands and reconcile resources for supply and maintenance operations.
  • Supervise the organizational processes and procedures to ensure data is verified and cleansed before being input into an existing ERP.
  • Define the current state of the ground equipment maintenance management programs for all equipment.
  • Assess organizational equipment that is outfitted with sensors and platform data output technology.
  • Collect data, analyze trends, and form recommendations as well as provide measurable metrics/benchmarks to support such recommendations.
