The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to on a multiphase CTMA initiative to advance the state of the art in analytical and software development tools and processes, as well as rapid prototyping and testing, to demonstrate how to proactively mitigate obsolescence across three different electronic components. The overall goal is to improve fleet readiness at an affordable cost and reduced schedule.

Specific goals include:

  • Utilize software diagnostic tools, problem investigation methods, and agile prototype and software development processes to demonstrate a novel approach to mitigate obsolescence of electronic components
  • Prove the feasibility for new rapid design, prototyping, and testing approaches that can be applied to other dual-use electronics in a manner that maximizes speed, reliability, and affordability.

Phase III will build upon the lessons learned from the previous efforts and will provide turret drive control unit prototypes and manufactured systems samples for government testing, developing, demonstrating and upgrading software based on new testing, as well as updating and executing obsolescence mitigation plans.
