The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to establish and demonstrate a repeatable, data-driven process for improving sustainment logistics by enhancing an AI/ML software tool with advanced mathematical algorithms.
Specific objectives of the project include:
- Identify data quality or accessibility gaps and implement a plan that demonstrates the AI/ML tool with clean, reliable, and timely data streams.
- Conduct iterative testing of the AI/ML tool’s predictive models against historical and real-time data. Use the results to refine the algorithms, improve forecast accuracy, and reduce prediction errors.
- Integrate the AI/ML tool into existing workflows (e.g., work order generation, parts forecasting). Document its performance and measure its direct impact on key metrics like man-hours, costs, and asset availability.
- Use the AI/ML tool to analyze demand history and operational requirements to generate recommendations.
- Develop user guides and training materials.
