The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance and transition a collection of innovative technologies that together enhance industrial productivity, accelerate maintenance and sustainment operations, and reduce workforce burden for Naval shipyards. The approach includes robotics, digital tools, and modern manufacturing methods, to be utilized by maturing key capabilities, aligning them under a common development framework, and preparing them for deployment in operational environments.
Specific objectives for this effort include:
- Maturing a family of scalable robotic and digital technologies and preparing them for operational evaluation in industrial environments.
- Advancing TRL and manufacturability of selected SBIR‑derived systems to accelerate transition into government and commercial use.
- Establishing a common framework and technology roadmap–reducing redundant development and improving alignment across suppliers.
- Demonstrating measurable gains in worker safety, productivity, and throughput, contributing to lower costs for government and industry.
