The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to expand and strengthen the future manufacturing workforce pipeline supporting both American industry and DOW sustainment operations through scalable marine robotics and manufacturing career pathway programs. The overall goal is to advance workforce development methodologies that increase K-12 student awareness of advanced manufacturing careers while creating sustainable educational partnerships among industry participants, educational institutions, and government stakeholders.

Key objectives include:

  • Expand underwater robotics participation for students across multiple school districts
  • Establish an advanced high school ROV robotics program in 7 school districts focused on marine technology, manufacturing careers, and underwater exploration applications.
  • Create a multi-year manufacturing pathway connecting middle school and high school student participation with manufacturing career awareness and workforce development opportunities.
  • Increase the number of students pursuing manufacturing, welding, pipe fitting, robotics, and technical education pathways that support the American industrial base and defense sustainment operations.
  • Strengthen partnerships among manufacturers, educational institutions, maritime organizations, and workforce development stakeholders to support long-term sustainment of manufacturing talent pipelines
