In 2025, Cybernet won the 2025 CTMA Technology Competition with its NDT Tracker. The non-destructive evaluation tool uses cameras to collect data and find flaws on large structures like aircraft. Cybernet’s Kevin Tang explains the journey the NDT Tracker had to go through, from ideation to award-winning tool.
- Development started as a Small Business Innovation Research project for NASA in 2010.
- After the program was cancelled, they worked with Tinker Air Force Base and found that they needed to adjust to make the system more portable and efficient.
- The tool addresses a tedious maintenance chore called UT grid mapping, which ensures the stability of an aircraft’s skin and structures by measuring the remaining thickness after repairs and corrosion mitigation.
