CTMA Project #: 142230
Problem: The increase of highly advanced, constantly evolving cyber-attack vectors continues to grow the threat landscape and protecting networks and data has become more challenging. Almost every corporate and public sector organization in the United States (U.S.) is facing attacks ranging from novice hackers to nation state actors. The risks to networks and critical data have never been higher. As such, the importance of network and data security increases as the amount of data created and stored continues to grow at unprecedented rates.
Solution/Approach: This initiative will advance the state of the art in innovative visualization and cyber range tools that improve the proficiency of cyber experts, operators, and maintainers to help secure and maintain information networks and protect the critical operational, supply chain, logistics, and administrative data that resides on them. These advanced visualization and cyber range tools create an effective ecosystem that simulates a wide range of security incidents so cybersecurity engineers, operators, and network maintainers can learn how to better design networks and respond against cyber-attacks. Using the U.S. Air Force Air Combat Command as a surrogate, this effort will reduce the possibility of a successful cyberattack and mitigate the potential consequences of a successful intrusion into the networks storing critical data.
Benefit: This initiative will increase the operational availability of information network systems and ensure access to critical data to support operational missions. Lessons learned from this initiative can potentially be used to help with the design and security of other information networks across the Department of Defense (DOD) and commercial industry.
