CTMA Project #: 140959

Problem: Both Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Conditioned-Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) require the “right data” on a timely basis from the SMART aircraft to be effective. In this digital transformation age, the amount of data being collected is plenty, but there are other challenges that must be addressed such as data characterization, data ownership, data connectivity, and data quality. Developing a feasible common solution to the aforementioned issues within a large organization such as the U.S. Navy will demonstrate to the public what solutions are possible.

Benefit: The results are expected to be easily transferable to other Services and commercial industry positively impacting the cost and delivery quality of air transportation services sold to the general public.

Solution/Approach: The overall objective of this initiative is to develop a solution which optimizes the integration of CBM+ data with RCM to deliver optimum levels of aircraft availability, preventive maintenance planning and sustainment operations efficiencies. The initial phase will provide a clear insight to corroborate the level integration of CBM+ data with RCM to support NAVAIR’s understanding of the gaps in the usability of the CBM+ data to support both the RCM process and at aircraft sustainment operations. This phase will establish a foundation that demonstrates the value of a greater level of CBM+/RCM integration and the insights that analytics can provide.
