CTMA Project #: 140836
Problem: The transformational change from preventive maintenance to CBM+ relies heavily on several key factors within the data management lifecycle. By leveraging technology advancements and industry best practices such as the Hadoop Distributed File System (open architecture software) and associated commodity hardware for warehousing Big Data, the transformation, integration, storage and retrieval of vast amounts of data from the various disparate sources can now be accomplished in an open and straightforward manner.
Key elements produced from Phase I include development of an overall eCBM+ template architecture, including integration with the NAVAIR data stores, NAVAIR’s closed loop Hadoop environment, metadata management, governance, data cleansing methods and data quality assessments, as well as development and interpretation of appropriate advanced analytic methods based on specific use cases, and more specifically, an end product that provides value to specific maintenance tasking.
Benefit: Suppliers for commercial aviation, oil/gas, and power industries will be able to glean the various data points derived from this NCMS project and directly apply this information to their current business practice. Other commercial CBM+ initiatives would benefit by this effort by gaining an understanding of best practices and new modeling techniques to apply when predicting part failures. The information gleaned from this project will provide DoD/NAVAIR considerable insights into the process of actually creating CBM+ systems as envisioned.
Solution/Approach: Due to the extra time and effort expended in Phase I on the complex issues faced during system integration, Phase II efforts will continue toward refining the use cases – Flight Analytical System and Analysis of Maintenance and Flight Data – produced in Phase I and will attempt to develop new use case as time permits.
