CTMA Project #: 142002

Problem: The Information Technology (IT) landscape has rapidly grown over the last decade, evolving from standalone systems, communications and processes to connected, integrated environments.  Because of the speed of advancements, many commercial companies and governmental agencies lag behind, failing to keep pace with always-changing requirements to be more net connected, efficient and secure.  Many maintenance and sustainment support efforts are heavily reliant on legacy tools, processes and IT infrastructure requiring a workforce dedicated to the manual maintenance of legacy toolsets, working through inefficient processes and sizable budgets to support the troubleshooting, maintenance and sustainment of IT infrastructures.

Benefit: Demonstration of a solution to address the U.S. Navy’s maintenance and sustainment management issues will also provide the commercial industry with critical knowledge to help successfully adopt an appropriate, cost-effective digital enterprise strategy beneficial to its customers.

Solution/Approach: This initiative intends to fully address the issue of legacy systems hindering the process improvement, efficiency, innovation, collaboration, data analysis, and cost effectiveness of maintenance organizations and activities.  Phase I is focused on demonstrating a solution for U.S. Navy, Commander, Submarine Force Atlantic (COMSUBLANT) to replace their current legacy system which will improve workflows, eliminate manual processes and provide enhanced analytic functionality.  Phase II will focus on the same technology application for Commander, Submarine Force Pacific (COMSUBPAC), tailoring the solution for their specific internal business processes which differ from COMSUBLANT.  In addition, Phase II will demonstrate scheduling capabilities that COMSUBLANT and COMSUBPAC do not currently have with their existing toolsets.
