NCMS Project #: 142278
Problem: As the U.S. military moves towards its divestiture of its fleet of famed M1A1 Abrams tanks in FY2025, there are still many coalition partner countries operating M1A1 fleets that will require continued sustainment and an active supply chain of replacement parts for years to come.
Benefit: The processes explored during this initiative will serve as a roadmap for commercial organizations that have a need to divest assets, from manufacturing machinery to construction equipment, to vehicle fleets.
Solution/Approach: Phase III will build upon the lessons from the previous phases and analyze how upgrades and integration of vehicle subsystems impact full system product lifecycle performance for vehicle fleets in the areas such as spare parts and supply chain management, obsolescence, reliability, availability, and maintainability, software integration, maintenance workforce training requirements, and equipment accountability and maintenance. Special emphasis will be placed on developing new processes and systems to collect critical maintenance data and determining metrics that improve material availability, decrease the maintenance down time for spare parts, increase the effectiveness and efficiency of depot and arsenal workload distribution, and enhance collaboration of information and lessons learned across various stakeholders.
