NCMS Project #: 142341

Problem: Effectively maintaining critical infrastructure is a priority to keep the American economy and people safe, protected, and moving. Corrosion is a leading issue for maintaining and sustaining these critical infrastructures. There is a growing realization in the shipbuilding and ship repair industry that greater efficiency is needed to meet the increasing demands of the maintenance schedule and deal with corrosion.

Benefit: The completion of project tasks will provide an example for commercial industries on new approaches to corrosion control using novel blasting technologies.

Solution/Approach: The objective of this effort is to identify, test, and demonstrate areas in the U.S Navy’s shipyard operations that can be improved using novel blast technologies. Use of this novel technology can give supervisors the real time data and ability to monitor blasting operations that are needed to make equipment adjustments to maximize productivity and efficiency.
