CTMA Project #: 140879
Problem: As businesses across the country consistently seek out mitigation and look for solutions to their IT shortfalls, design for standardization, cataloging and effectively identifying parts for distribution while being able to quickly isolate defective parts is an issue that has plagued industry for decades and continues today. The U.S. Air Force (USAF) is also researching ways to improve its cataloging operations which are conducted within the framework of the Federal Catalog Program (FCP). USAF Enterprise operations require information systems that maintain uninterrupted, real-time munitions accountability and serviceability data supporting end-to-end Lifecycle Management (LCM). Over the last 10 years, the lack of prioritized funding and challenges encountered during previous modernization approaches resulted in gaps, leading to deficiencies that do not allow for timely and accurate Total Asset Visibility (TAV). The legacy systems used today must evolve.
Benefit: The intent of this initiative is to use the USAF’s logistics system as a surrogate to industry to demonstrate how improvements to their logistics systems and worldwide distribution networks can benefit local governments to improve and better support services required by the general public.
Solution/Approach: Phase I successfully demonstrated agile design and development and it increased opportunities to improve and modernize system interfaces, legacy and application interoperability, data accessibility, and digital capability (such as mobility, analytics, multi-party collaboration, etc.), while also reducing lifecycle and sustainment costs. Additionally, Phase I efforts demonstrated advanced features and functions of command and control, real-time inventory management, and movement visibility while proving a more general supply-class-agnostic Core AF Logistics MDM capability solution.
Phase II efforts will focus on increasing IMLCI and Munitions capability to a limited deployment Software as a Service (SaaS) allowing for advancements of new LCM features, functions, and future replacement of IMCS and Munitions legacy systems.
