CTMA Project #: 140950
Problem: Currently, it is not uncommon for ships being repaired or overhauled to be in drydock for up to 2 years before certified seaworthy. Thus, shipyards are seeking technology solutions that will enable them to build future fleets and expeditiously repair current fleets on budget and on time with the operational performance and lifecycle durability and availability to satisfy acceptable total ownership-cost (TOC) goals.
Benefit: Maintenance and sustainment organizations, consumers, and manufacturing industries at large, will have a faster way to understand complex industrial spatial utilizations from a library of accessible 3D Virtual Shipyard Environments resulting in a reduced contract, production, and delivery lead-times.
Solution/Approach: This project intends to develop a 3D Virtual Shipyard Environment where NAVSEA ship maintenance stakeholders have ready access to 3D model files, technical information, training, and shared knowledge experiences. The pilot work effort will lead to innovations in cross-functional team coordination capabilities associated with advance industrial planning processes for submarine maintenance activities. The participants will identify and combine best practices with open-source and highly mature Information Technology (IT) technologies existing in both government and commercial sectors.
