Problem: Phase I demonstrated a Proof of Concept solution through experimentation using MAD-emulating devices that could become detached using appropriately applied magnetic fields. More work, however, is required to progress to the proposed solution of detaching unwanted MADs to a workable prototype.
Benefit: The ability to repel/detach unwanted or no longer needed MADs will be an invaluable and welcome technology offering great benefits of enhanced safety to the public in general by avoiding injury during the detachment process of strong magnetically-attached components.
Solution/Approach: The work of Phase I provides the basis for continuation of the project technical investigations and milestones into Phase II, where the goal and final deliverable will be an alpha prototype electromagnet unit/module capable of detaching MAD-emulators with real-life specifications under laboratory conditions.
