CTMA Project #: 140882
Problem: Design for standardization, cataloging and effectively identifying and managing parts for distribution (e.g. how/where they are ultimately deployed) while being able to quickly and accurately assess quantities for parts and components from more than one supplier, all the while meeting specific maintenance or sustainment requirements is an issue that industry has yet to overcome. Businesses across the United States continue to struggle with IT upgrades needed to keep pace with the ever-changing advances in technology. The U.S. Navy is facing similar problems within their logistics supply chain.
Benefit: This technical, cloud-based ERP platform envisioned for this program can be readily applied to the commercial market, either integrating with existing ERPs or replacing them at a much lower cost. One of the most important aspects of this new logistics system is that of agility allowing for rapid growth into new markets.
Solution/Approach: Maintenance and sustainment industries in the public sector know that to remain competitive, huge investments in building digital platforms will be necessary. Developing a feasible solution to these supply and tracking issues within a large organization such as the U.S. Navy will demonstrate to the public sector what solutions are possible. As such, this project will utilize U.S. Navy infrastructure as a surrogate for an eventual industry, state and/or local government solution that satisfies vast public need requirements. The overall objective of this initiative is to assess the capability of a Platform as a Service/Software as a Service (PaaS/SaaS) environment to support requirements in an enterprise setting for world-wide deployment and inherent capabilities to work in disconnected environments.
