CTMA Project #: 140896

Problem: A ship that is not functioning properly is nonproductive and more importantly unsafe to the crew and other ships traveling in the same lanes. Power train issues are complex and chronic in the shipping fleet. The U.S. Navy is the perfect organization to test out these predictive analytics.

Benefit: Results and technologies derived from this project will provide critical information for maritime engineers so that they may incorporate all relative findings into U.S. seagoing vessels. This will increase safety for all those who travel congested shipping lanes and/or subject to heavy seas.

Solution/Approach: The intent of this NCMS project is to demonstrate the latest advances in predictive analytics, which will manage equipment failure modes in real time. This technology will provide actionable information for reacting quickly to failing components and/or start the advance planning based on remaining useful life of those components to maximize readiness at reduced cost.
