CTMA Project #: 140838

Problem: The Ncompass-Voyager tests all circuits/wires all the time, concurrently and continuously, for the duration of the test. If an intermittent fault occurs on any circuit/wire, the Ncompass-Voyager detects, isolates and stores the precise location of the event. To date, the Ncompass-Voyager has been utilized with tremendous success on U.S. and NATO forces equipment including but not limited to the UH-60, CH-47, C-130J, M1-A1, Tornado GR4 and Eurofighter Typhoon.

Benefit: Utilizing this capability at Ogden Air Logics Complex, Hill AFB to test the F-16 MLPRF has already yielded a 28x return on investment (ROI) by returning to service MLPRFs that had previously been considered “unrepairable,” and by more than tripling the MLPRF reliability.

Solution/Approach: Providing this capability to Letterkenny Army Depot (LEAD), will enable the intermittent fault detection and isolation and repair of mission critical wiring harnesses on weapons systems maintained at LEAD. This collaboration will also prove the usefulness of this detection and isolation equipment for other DoD weapons systems in the future by further demonstrating the need for test capability that quickly and precisely detects and isolates intermittent connectivity issues, reduces No Evidence of Failure (NEOF) and improves mission readiness. Significantly improving the reliability of the LEAD test candidates will also demonstrate the overall business case by having a short payback period and a better than double return on investment (ROI), in essence paying for itself.

Providing this capability to Fort Campbell, will enable the intermittent fault detection and isolation and repair of flight critical wiring harnesses on the CH-47, UH-60 and AH-64 weapons systems. Significantly improving the reliability of the CH-47, UH-60 and AH-64 test candidates will also demonstrate the overall business case by having a short payback period and a better than double return on investment (ROI), in essence paying for itself.
