The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to assess the scalability of the benefits of a particular legacy aircraft’s integration into a digital engineering environment on production and the vendor base. Since this legacy platform has invested heavily in diverse digital engineering solutions, it makes an ideal platform to utilize as a surrogate to demonstrate the benefits of DE scalability for producing low quantity but high impact legacy systems. The overall goal will be to identify best practices and outcomes that can inform legacy platforms on how benefits realized in design and prototyping would scale to overall maintenance, modernization, and sustainment.
