The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to demonstrate and advance a portfolio of leap-ahead technologies toward domestic manufacturing and qualification readiness, while establishing shared test infrastructure that benefits the broader industrial base.
Additional key objectives include:
- Design, install, and commission an autonomous e-machine development lab to provide domestic motor characterization services.
- Advance sub-recipient technologies—electric machines, rare-earth-free magnets, advanced batteries, and power electronics—toward production-relevant validation and qualification.
- Develop counter-UAS platform prototypes and conduct testing to facilitate Army Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System (C-UAS) readiness.
- Establish a repeatable red drone teardown and threat-replication methodology, producing reverse-engineered threat intelligence and test assets to foster realistic C-UAS validation.
- Strengthen the domestic supply base for defense-critical components, reducing reliance on foreign sourcing.
