The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to mature and transition advanced manufacturing technologies that improve production, qualification, and sustainment capabilities for DoW and commercial applications. The overall goal is to establish reusable manufacturing capabilities, qualification approaches, execution guidance, and workforce resources for broad adoption.

Additional key objectives include:

  • Validate AM process-property-performance relationships to reduce qualification timelines and improve manufacturing confidence.
  • Expand material characterization and digital engineering capabilities to improve repeatability, product quality, and manufacturing reliability.
  • Demonstrate smart manufacturing, automation, and large-scale AM technologies that improve throughput, efficiency, and cost performance.
  • Develop qualification methods, standards recommendations, business cases, and execution guidance that enables technology transition.
  • Establish workforce development plans that prepare engineers, technicians, and manufacturing professionals for future industrial needs.
